Houston, TX (May 22, 2019) – A four-year-old child involved in a major collision died at the San Jacinto River Bridge in East Houston.
The crash happened around 7:00 a.m. near Interstate 10 East and Lynchburg.
A car and an 18-wheeler were both traveling westbound on the East Freeway, when the big rig changed lanes and hit the car.
The vehicle was pushed over the guardrail and landed upside down on the embankment below.
The child, Bridgett Bonilla, was not properly restrained and was confirmed dead at the scene.
The parents, 35-year-old Jorge Alejandro Bonilla and 24-year-old Carmen Madrid survived the accident. Mr. Bonilla was trapped in the vehicle and had to be flown by LifeFlight to a hospital. Ms. Madrid was not injured.
The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured and remained on the scene to work with authorities.
Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in ten days.
