18-Wheeler Driver Falls Asleep at the Wheel, Causes Wreck

Diboll, Texas (12/30/2019) – A driver of an 18-wheeler is now hospitalized after falling asleep at the wheel and causing a rollover wreck in Diboll, Texas.

According to DPS, the accident occurred around 6:45 a.m. Friday on US Highway 59 when driver Bruce Jackson, 45, fell asleep at the wheel, traveled into a median, overcorrected, and lost control. The 18-wheeler overturned and blocked all 59 northbound lanes.

Jackson suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital in Houston for treatment.

Fuel was offloaded from the tanker and lanes were reopened once lingering gas fumes disappeared around 2:48 p.m.

Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in fourteen days.

Texas Truck Accident Lawyers

With any Texas area, there are various commercial trucks on the road. While sometimes careful, they sometimes result in fatal crashes. A standard semi-truck weighs an average of 4,000 pounds while a large vehicle can weigh up to 80,000 pounds.

Because of the nature of their size, weight, and force, getting involved in an 18-wheeler accident can result in thousands in damages. Pending the result of the investigation and why the driver fell asleep at the wheel, the damages may result in thousands in medical expenses and company vehicle damages.
