Lavon, TX (11/06/2019) – Four Community High School students were fatally killed and three others injured in a car wreck Tuesday afternoon.
The two-car collision happened near the intersection of North State Highway 78 and Business 78/Main Street just after 5:45 p.m., according to police. The four teenagers were in a truck going north on SH 78 when they hydroplaned, lost control and hit a southbound van.
They have identified the four victims as two teenage boys and two teenage girls.
The three other injured victims were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The roadway was closed following the accident.
No further information has been released.
Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in fourteen days.
Hydroplaning is one of the scariest accidents a motorist can be involved in. It is also one of the easiest to prevent.
By not increasing speed on wet roadways, maintaining adequate tire pressure, and avoiding deep pools of water on the road can result in a lack of the thousands of injuries and deaths that occur each year from weather-related accidents.
