Benito Garcia Dies in 18-Wheeler Head-on Collision Near Bronte

Bronte, TX (5/29/2020) – A driver died and another seriously injured in an 18-wheeler crash that happened on Wednesday.

The truck accident occurred on U.S. 277 south of Bronte. A truck driver was traveling southbound when it hydroplaned, crossed lanes causing a collision with the driver traveling northbound.

One driver was identified as 52-year-old Benito Garcia from San Angelo. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jaime Alejandro Gonzalez, 35, was injured and transported to Shannon Medical Center.

Earlier that day, a thunderstorm passed the Bronte area. Hydroplaning occurs when the combination of a slippery road, speeding, and tire pressure causes a driver to lose control. Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led to the accident and police reports will be made available in fourteen days.
