Cyclist Killed by Car Moments after Saving His Fiancée

Houston, TX (10/21/2019) – Deven Custer, a 27-year-old man from Harris County, was killed while cycling with his fiancée at 7 p.m. Monday evening.

The couple was on their routine bike route when driver Jason Stuart approached the two from behind with his car. According to fiancée Stephanie Thompson, Custer reached behind her and pushed her out of the way. Custer was hit instead. 

He died in the accident. 

The driver stayed at the scene until deputies arrived. According to deputies, Custer wore dark clothing, had no light or reflectors on his bike, and was not wearing a helmet. 

Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in fourteen days.
