Daren Putnam Struck after Hit-and-Run Incident in Trinity

Trinity County, TX (12/5/2019) -Bicyclist Daran Putnam, 30, is hospitalized after a vehicle struck him as he was bicycling on FM 356 Tuesday evening.

According to a preliminary crash report, a Dodge Journey driven by Bobby Ray Shepherd, 31, was headed west on FM 356 when he drove across the eastbound lane and landed in a ditch. He struck a bicyclist in the process.

Putnam was transported to a hospital for treatment of his injuries sustained in the accident.

Shepherd failed to assist aid and he fled the scene. He sustained no injuries.

He now resides in Trinity County Jail with four charges against him.

Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in fourteen days.

According to Tex. Transp. Code Ann. § 550.021, immediately after an accident involving injury or death, every individual is required to:

  1. Stop their vehicle at the scene of the accident or as close to the scene as possible;
  2. Determine whether a person is involved in the accident and if they require aid;
  3. Return to the scene of the accident if the vehicle is not stopped at the scene of the accident; and
  4. Remain at the scene of the accident until specific requirements have been met.

Shepherd failed to follow and in doing so, they face consequences such as fines, jail or prison, and a criminal record. Because of this, Daran Putnam is encouraged to seek legal assistance to handle matters involved in a hit-and-run accident.
