Fatal Crash on U.S. 67 South
TANKERSLEY (November 15, 2018)- A fatal accident shut down U.S. Highway 67 South near Tankersley on Tuesday morning.

Around 5:00 a.m. first responders were called to a major collision with a motor vehicle and an 18-wheeler. Matthew Ryan Werkeiser, 32, was driving a blue Dodge minivan. The driver of the big rig has not been identified, but belongs to Maalt Trucking.

The 18-wheeler stopped in the eastbound lane of U.S. 67 attempting to turn left into the Maalt Transport Yard located at 12826 U.S. 67 South. Mr. Mertzon was heading east on U.S. 67 failed to stop and crashed into the back of the semi-truck. Mr. Mertzon was pronounced dead at the scene.

Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers continue to investigate the crash.
