Fatal Three Car Accident with Rideshare and Drunken Driver in Southeast HoustonHouston (March 1, 2019) – A pickup truck collided into a car, killing an innocent passenger and injuring a driver.

The car accident happened around 1:00 a.m. Friday on Galveston Road near Pineloch. Police confirm that the car was operating as a rideshare service, but have not confirmed if it was Uber or Lyft.

Authorities say the driver of a gray Dodge truck heading northbound on Galveston Road clipped the rear end of a small silver pickup truck and continued through the intersection at Pineloch Drive, when it T-boned a car making a left turn. The back passenger of the car died. The car’s driver was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the Dodge was also taken to the hospital and is in stable condition. The driver will be charged with intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault.

The driver of the silver truck, who was not seriously injured, has been charged with a DWI. Authorities do not hold him responsible for the deadly crash.

While investigators were on the scene, a third suspected drunk driver crashed into two police cars. No officers were injured and the driver was arrested.

Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in ten days.

Update:

The suspect, a 21 –year-old Hispanic male, Erik Julian De Leon. Is charged with intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault in the 174th State District Court. Mr. De Leon is still in the hospital.

The Lyft driver, 29-year-old Ezatullah Safi is in a coma. Safi is an Afghan refguee with a wife and two kids.

The passenger has been identified as 40-year-old Dr. Billy Satterfield died on the scene.
