HOUSTON (May 2, 2019) –One person is dead after a three-vehicle collision on the North Freeway.

The car wreck happened around 1:15 a.m. on the North Freeway near East Tidwell Road. The driver of a black Lexus G43 was traveling southbound on the freeway when he lost control of the car and slammed into the concrete barrier.

The car accident caused a chain reaction with a second vehicle colliding into the passenger side of the Lexus. The second vehicle left the scene.

The Lexus started to catch fire when it was hit by a third vehicle, a Pontiac Grand Prix, on the side causing both vehicles to become engulfed in flames.

The driver of the first car was severely burned and died in the crash. The identity of the victim is pending verification.

The driver of the Grand Prix was able to escape the fire and stayed on the scene.

Crash investigators are working to determine if alcohol or speeding may have been a factor in the accident.
