Wharton County, TX (11/29/2020) – Five people were killed in a fatal accident that occurred Sunday morning in Wharton County.

The accident happened around 3:56 a.m. on US 59 just before FM 961 and Highway 60.

A black Cadillac SUV was headed southbound when it veered off the main lanes, drove through a grassy median, entered the northbound lanes, and collided into an oncoming Nissan Altima.

The driver of the Cadillac was pronounced dead at the scene.

Three adults and a toddler in the Nissan Altima were also killed at the scene.

A 6-month-old infant was flown to the hospital for treatment.

Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in fourteen days.

According to an NTSB report, head-on collisions, also identified as wrong-way collisions, account for only 3 percent of accidents on roadways, but they are more likely to result in fatal and serious injuries than any other types of accidents. The severity of oncoming collisions, much like the case above, is why hiring an attorney is essential; lawyers will be able to effectively determine who is at-fault, along with taking the lead on all matters regarding insurance claims, demand letters, settlements, and other legalities.
