Four killed, one critically injured in collision near Lake Somerville

Lake Somerville, TX (5/11/2020) – Four people were killed and one was left injured after a two-vehicle car crash near Lake Somerville late Saturday.

The accident happened around 11:05 p.m. on LBJ Drive in Washington County. A Ford pickup driven by Ignacio Aviles, 37, was headed southbound on LBJ Drive when it hit a guardrail and collided head-on into a Chevrolet Suburban.

Aviles was taken to CHI St. Joseph where he remains in critical condition.

The driver of the Suburban, 18-year-old Chase Sowders, was killed at the scene. His passengers Jasmine Maxwell, 18; Payton Francis, 6; and Justin Richard, 37, were also killed in the collision.

Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in fourteen days.

Head-on collisions are the reason many people suffer injuries or end up killed. When these kinds of wrongful fatalities occur, it’s important to seek a personal injury or wrongful death lawyer. They have the resources necessary to help you after your accident, and if your case happens to go to trial, they’ll be able to rightfully represent you and your case.
