Ginger Mattox Dead after Deadly Wreck in Austin

Austin, TX (5/28/2020) – A woman is now dead after a deadly wreck in northwest Austin that happened May 21.

The accident happened around 10:40 p.m. at Pond Springs Road and U.S. 183 North. A gray Mazda M3i was headed north on U.S. 183 when it struck the back of a white GMC truck sitting at a red light at Ponds Springs Road. The impact pushed the truck into the intersection while the Mazda continued northbound before driving onto a sidewalk, where it struck 30-year-old Ginger Mattox. The Mazda crashed into a nearby building and then stopped.

She was taken to St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center, where she later died.

The driver of the truck was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Mazda, 27-year-old Gary Joseph Brauneis, was charged with DWI intoxication manslaughter and booked into Williamson County Jail.

Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in fourteen days.
