The 2018 Allstate America’s Best Drivers Report ranks the largest 200 U.S. cities with the safest drivers. In putting together the study, Allstate looked at the drivers’ average years between car accidents and the likelihood of a person filing a collision claim compared to the national average.

While the average driver believes he or she is a good driver, the reality is that a person will experience a car accident every 10 years. Allstate’s ranking of the safest driving cities are:

No 1: Brownville, Texas with a 26% less chance of a car accident

2: Kansas City, Kansas -23%

3: Boise, Idaho – 17%

4: Huntsville, Alabama – 16%

5: Madison, Wisconsin – 15%

164: Houston, Texas – 44%

Houston saw slight improvement compared to last year’s ranking at 167. On average a Houston driver involved in a car accident will file a claim every eight years, two years less than the national average.

Other Texas cities among the list are:

No. 6: Laredo – 14%

7: Midland – 14%

10: McAllen – 13%

18: Amarillo – 3%

159: Austin – 41%

178: Dallas – 54%

As for the cities with the worst drivers, the list includes:

No 194: Los Angeles, California – 81%

198: Washington, D.C.-156%

199: Boston, Massachusetts – 157%

200: Baltimore, Maryland with a 163% greater chance of a crash

Allstate also reports that 94% of collisions are caused by preventable human factors. To help reduce the number of accidents, here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Obey the speed limit and traffic signs.
  • Keep your eyes on the road and avoid distractions including your smartphone.
  • Never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • Follow posted high signs.
  • Keep a safe distance from the driver’s in front of you.
  • Don’t drive angry or let someone else’s bad driving cause you to act carelessly.

If you or a loved one was injured in a car accident, it is important to contact a Houston car accident lawyer to help you evaluate your options. Call (713) 987-7111 or to discuss your car accident injury case.
