Howard Wright Killed in Two-Vehicle Wreck in Lubbock

Lubbock, TX (2/25/2020) – A man is now dead after a crash occurred Monday afternoon at the intersection of 72rd Street and Slide Road.

The accident happened around 2:39 p.m. Howard Wright, 69, was in a Nissan Murano and pulled out onto Slide Road after waiting at a stop sign. That’s when a Dodge Charger came southbound on Slide Road and struck Wright.

Wright was taken to UMV via ambulance where he was later pronounced deceased.

The driver of the Charger, 19-year-old Xavier Montalvo, suffered injuries sustained in the accident.

According to eyewitnesses, the crash was related to racing.

Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in fourteen days.

Investigators are currently looking into what may have caused the Charger to strike Wright. Police will also conduct interviews, contact witnesses, and possibly bring in Accident Reconstructionists to conduct the investigation. The investigation results will then reveal the cause of the negligent actions of the driver behind the vehicle that destroyed the woman’s apartment.
