Investigators Looking into Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accident in Tyler

Tyler, TX (11/02/2019) – Tyler police are looking into the accident with a pedestrian in downtown Tyler Saturday morning.

The accident happened just after midnight at the intersection of Erwin and Broadway, according to police.

The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Extent of injuries are unknown.

Police arrested driver Christopher Michael Nafrady, 24, where he remains in custody. Charges include accident involving injury as well as driving while intoxicated. His bond is set at $10,500.

Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in fourteen days.

Unfortunately, pedestrians are at a disadvantage when it comes to personal safety on the streets of Tyler. Motorists frequently fail to see pedestrians on or alongside busy roads, and it only takes a second for a serious accident to occur.

Sadly, most pedestrian accidents are preventable. Statistics show that almost half of all pedestrian accidents involve a drunk or otherwise intoxicated driver. Nearly 20 percent of pedestrians injured in drunk driving accidents are under the age of 12.
