Amarillo, TX (April 3, 2020) – A woman is now dead after a two-vehicle wreck Wednesday evening in Amarillo.

The accident happened near NW 24th Avenue and N Jefferson Street April 1 around 9:50 p.m. An SUV driven by Ykevia Johnson, 36, was headed west on 24th and turning onto Jefferson when she did not yield the right-of-way and was struck by another vehicle.

Lekisha Nicole Washington, 44, and a 1-year-old passenger were taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Washington later died from her injuries.

Johnson faces charges of intoxicated manslaughter, intoxicated assault and injury to a child.

Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in fourteen days.

Investigators are currently looking into the accident. Because this accident involved a death, a substantial crash investigation will be conducted. This involves conducting interviews, contacting witnesses, and bringing in Accident Reconstructionists to recreate the collision.
