Man Dead after Explosion in Jones County

Jones County, TX (1/14/2020) – One man is dead after an oilfield explosion occurred Sunday morning in Jones County.

The accident occurred around 10:15 a.m. when Jorge Martinez was power-washing the heater of a battery oil tank. The tank combusted from an unknown cause and caused Martinez to crash into a nearby vehicle. Martinez suffered burns on 60 percent of his body, as well as severe lacerations.

Martinez was taken to a hospital in Lubbock where he later died from his injuries.

Investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in fourteen days.

Burn injuries are a common result after suffering from an explosion. In the United States in 2009, thousands of people are killed every year due some type of fire related incident and significantly more people sustain burn related injuries. These kinds of injuries have varying degrees and can result in blisters all the way up to nerve damage.

Because the man in the situation above resulted in his death, the surviving family of the man may be entitled to a wrongful death claim.

It is important to have an experienced lawyer handling the case who understands the damages of wrongful death. An attorney can negotiate settlements and represent your best interests if a lawsuit is needed.
