Beaumont, TX (7/22/2020) – A male pedestrian was killed early Wednesday morning after being hit by a car in Beaumont.

The accident happened on Texas Highway 87/73 near Groves. A man, 40, was walking across the highway around 5:30 a.m. when he was struck by a 2008 Infinity driven by a 24-year-old Orrin Landers from Orange. Landers was traveling westbound on Highway 87 south of Rainbow bridge when he struck the man.

The man was killed at the scene.

Landers was not injured.

Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in fourteen days.

Due to the nature of the incident, the surviving family of the pedestrian may be entitled to a wrongful death claim against Landers. According to Texas law, a pedestrian has the right of way when crossing an intersection at a crosswalk. However, the pedestrian was walking across a highway, so it remains to be seen if Landers is wholly liable and at-fault.
