Corolla Drunk Driver Crash

El Paso, TX (12/9/2019) – A mother and her 6-year-old son were killed Saturday night in South El Paso after being involved in a fatal drunk driving accident.

The incident happened around 7:30 p.m. on Loop 375 West near Bowie High School when Juan Martinez, 73, was traveling eastbound in a Toyota 4Runner in the westbound lanes of traffic when he hit a Toyota Corolla, driven by Elide Yvonna Garcia, 25, with her son Luis Wences, 6, head-on.

The boy was instantly killed upon impact.

Garcia was transported to a local hospital, where she also died.

A third passenger in Garcia’s car, 29-year-old Alberto Cuellar, suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Martinez was also hospitalized for treatment of minor injuries. He will be booked into the El Paso County Detention Center upon his hospital release.

Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in fourteen days.
