New Caney, TX (2/25/2021) – A mother was killed and multiple people were injured when a tire flew into her windshield while she was driving Thursday night in Houston.
The incident happened around 7:15 p.m. The woman was driving home, with her 17-year-old son in the passenger seat, from a baseball game when a tire flew off from a Dodge pickup truck and struck the windshield of her GMC pickup truck.
She lost control and rear-ended a vehicle carrying a father and three children.
The mother was killed instantly.
Her son, who was asleep in the front passenger seat at the time of the wreck, went to the hospital with serious injuries.
The father and three children were taken to Kingwood Hospital. They are also in serious condition, but are stable.
The condition of the driver of the Dodge pickup remains unknown. Investigators haven’t yet said what caused the tire and wheel to fall off.
Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in fourteen days.
