Nolan County, TX (11/11/2019) – A multi-vehicle wreck left three dead and one injured Sunday evening in Nolan County.
The accident occurred around 7 p.m. on Highway 53 near Turkey Ranch in Blackwell. A Toyota Corolla was traveling southbound when a Dodge Charger heading northbound attempted to pass a semi-truck in a no-passing zone and struck the Toyota head-on.
The man in the blue Toyota was killed. He was identified as 20-year-old Bryan Isaac Pesina.
The man and the woman in the white Charger also died. They were identified as 43-year-old Joan Palacios and 47-year-old Juan Palacios.
The woman riding in the backseat of the Charger, 22-year-old Katerina Pesina, survived and was transported by helicopter to a nearby hospital. There is no relation to Bryan Pesina.
Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in fourteen days.
The three victims above are just three out of hundreds of head-on collisions that happen every year. According to the Texas Department of Transportation, there were 548 people killed in head-on crashes in 2018.
