Trinity County, TX (4/1/2021) – A three-vehicle wreck left one motorist killed in a fatal highway collision.
The wreck happened around 6:45 p.m. on State Highway 94. A Mack truck towing a pole trailer was headed eastbound while a Texas DPS patrol car was headed westbound.
The DPS car was making a U-turn and entering the eastbound lane when the Mack truck drove over in the westbound lane and struck a Jeep Wrangler head-on.
The 18-wheeler then crossed back over the eastbound lane and struck the back right side of the DPS vehicle. The truck went off the roadway and overturned onto its passenger side and caught on fire.
The driver of the Jeep, Melanie Painter, 53, was taken to Crockett Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead.
The driver of the Mack truck was identified as Chad Deford, 35, and he was uninjured in the collision.
The Texas DPS trooper was identified as Brady Germeroth, 37, and he was also uninjured.
Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in fourteen days.
