Decatur, TX (1/11/2021) – Two people were taken to the hospital after a two-vehicle wreck occurred in Decatur.

The accident happened on Monday around 4:45 p.m. when a Honda Civic headed west on U.S. 380 failed to yield the right-of-way while exiting onto U.S. 81/287 and collided into a GMC Terrain.

The driver of the GMC, 23-year-old Robert Fore, and Romero’s passenger, Jose Castro, were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Honda, 32-year-old Elsa Romero, was not injured.

Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in fourteen days.

Failing to Yield

Failure to yield is among the leading cause of roadway accidents in Houston. Some drivers simply fail to give their full attention while driving, and others consider themselves above the law. Regardless of why the failure occurred, everyone is obligated to yield the right-of-way by following official traffic signs and signals and adhering to the rules of the road.

Not following appropriate right-of-way laws may not only result in hefty fines but also cause a devastating road accident. People who are hurt in car accidents involving a failure to yield may be eligible for filing a personal injury claim against the liable party.
