New Jersey (6/1/2020) – Two pedestrians were killed Saturday afternoon when a semi-truck driver who was allegedly intoxicated and struck two vehicles.
The accident happened on Interstate 295 around 4:00 p.m. when 61-year-old Eduardo Villasenor-Aguilar of El Paso, Texas drove his Freightliner tractor trailer southbound into the right shoulder in Carneys Point Township. He struck a Honda Civic and an Infiniti G20 that were both stopped on the shoulder. The truck hit the Infiniti, then was pushed into the Honda.
Desiree Pulliam, 29, of New Castle, Delaware, and Heber Barreiro-Lopez, 30, of Philadelphia, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Villasenor-Aguilar was charged with two counts of vehicular homicide and driving while intoxicated. He was placed in Salem County Correctional Facility pending a detention hearing.
Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in ten days.
