Woman and Toddler Injured in Two-Vehicle Crash

Shelby County, TX (1/9/2020) – A woman and a two-year-old are now hospitalized after a wreck occurred in Shelby County.

The accident occurred around 6:30 a.m. on SH 7 when a Ford SUV headed west failed to control speed and struck a Dodge pickup from behind. The Dodge was stopped while a school bus unloaded children.

The driver of the Ford, 26-year-old Tiffany Mayfield, and her passenger, a two-year-old boy, were taken to LSU Medical Center via helicopter.

The driver of the Dodge, 50-year-old James Beasley, was not injured.

Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in fourteen days.

Investigators are currently looking into what may have caused the woman to speed and ultimately drive her vehicle into another stopped vehicle. Police will also conduct interviews, contact witnesses, and possibly bring in Accident Reconstructionists to conduct the investigation. The investigation results will then reveal what may have caused the man to crash his car early morning in Shelby County.
