US-59 near Cleveland Texas is a dangerous stretch of road. It is a high traffic area, especially during the usual rush hours, and it carries a lot of the Houston-commuter traffic. This volume makes this stretch of road especially susceptible to auto and semi-truck collisions.

Another feature which makes this stretch of US-59 near Cleveland Texas a likely place for serious vehicle accidents is the large volume of commercial logging trucks. This type of payload, massive logs, can cause dangers that aren’t present with other 18-wheelers. There’s also the problem that a lot of these logging trucks are owned by large companies who have an incentive to overwork their drivers.

At Sutliff & Stout, we have represented clients who were seriously injured in collisions with commercial vehicles on this very stretch of road, US-59.

Head-on Collision Case on US-59

In one case, a driver on US-59 was involved in a head-on collision at significant speed. The driver was seriously injured, suffering a broken collar bone and a mild traumatic brain injury (TBI). As with many people who suffer mild TBI’s, it was hard for the driver to understand the full extent of the injury and how it would impact her life.

We were able to secure proper treatment for her injuries. We also hired experts for the court case who explained to the court the lasting impact of such an injury. After a year of litigating with a commercial entity, we were able to achieve a settlement netted the client $871,105.00 in addition to the payment of over $117,500.00 in medical expenses.

Multiple-Injury Collision Case on US-59

In another case concerning a collision on US-59, we took over the litigation for a family after their previous legal counsel attempted to settle for $300,000. The injured party suffered a burst fracture of the spine and a broken ankle as the result of the motor vehicle accident.

Spinal injuries in particular are very serious and expensive. We were able to obtain a 2.75 million dollar settlement, and the net recovery for their client was 1.6 million.
