Houston, TX (June 13, 2022) – An Uber driver is dead and a 16-year-old is in critical condition after the pair collided with a suspect being chased by local police. The crash took place around midnight on Monday night near Southwest Freeway and S. Sam Houston Parkway.

According to the Houston Police Department, officers had tried to stop the suspect on a traffic violation. The driver led police on a pursuit of the Southwest Freeway, ultimately running a red light on a HWY 59 access road where the suspect crashed into the Uber driver.

The Uber driver was pronounced dead on the scene while the teenage passenger was transported to a local area hospital. Police say the teen possibly suffered a spinal injury. The suspect was also taken to a local hospital for a leg injury. Police say the suspect will be facing numerous charges and they’re continuing to investigate the incident to see if there were any signs of intoxication.
