18-Wheeler Caught Fire after Crashing into Barrier

Lufkin, TX (3/13/2021) – An 18-wheeler caught fire on Saturday and left injuries on the driver.

The incident happened on U.S. 59 around 6 a.m. when an 18-wheeler hauling two trailers carrying tractor tires collided head-on with a concrete barrier leading to the U.S. 59 flyover.  It is still unclear what caused him to hit the barrier.

A passerby pulled the driver to safety before the truck was engulfed in flames. The driver was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The northbound side of U.S. 59 was closed from Whitehouse Drive to South Medford Drive.

Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led to the accident, and police reports will be made available in fourteen days.
