Occur when one vehicle strikes another from behind. According to Consumer Reports (using Insurance Institute for Highway Safety data), these are the most common types of collision. Typically, the rear driver is liable due to following too closely, speeding, or inattention. In some cases, the front driver may be at fault if they slammed on brakes without reason, had non-functioning brake lights, or changed lanes without signaling.
