Lubbock, TX (3/4/2021) – A school bus driver and two children suffered serious injuries after being involved in a wreck with an 18-wheeler in Lubbock County.
The accident happened around 6:40 a.m. on FM 1585 and County Road 2500. A school bus carrying 11 students was headed northbound while an 18-wheeler was headed westbound. The school bus failed to yield the right-of-way and collided with the 18-wheeler.
The bus driver, 52-year-old Margaret Hernandez, and two students were taken to the Covenant Medical Center. Among those three individuals, the driver and one student suffered serious injuries. The other student’s injuries were minor.
Nine more children were taken to University Medical Center, one with serious injuries — the remaining eight with minor injuries, according to DPS.
The driver of the 18-wheeler was not hurt.
Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in fourteen days.
