Deadly car crashes plague Houston over the weekend

HOUSTON, TX (September 18, 2018) – Overnight a series of four major car accidents took place involving serious injuries or fatalities.

The first car accident reported was Saturday night at 10:30 p.m. in northwest Harris County. Zachery Palazzeti was speeding and ran a red light causing a collision with Rafie Martin at the TX-249 and Fallbrook intersection. Both drivers were pronounced dead on the scene.

In the Heights area on Sunday at 1 a.m., north of Katy Freeway and Washington, a white Lexus was speeding, hit a barricade and a tree. The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences named Robert Miller and Sean O’Neill as victims of the traffic collision, but officials have not confirmed.

Around 2 a.m. in Southeast Houston, a woman was speeding on the 610 South Loop East, near Gulfgate. She lost control of her car, crashed into the guard rail, went over the edge and dropped down onto the ramp below the overpass rolling over. First responders pulled her out of her car and rushed her to the hospital in serious, but stable condition.

A terrifying three-car collision happened in Spring Branch around 4 a.m. leaving one person hospitalized. The driver of a blue Fiat pulled out in front of two other cars causing the crash at the intersection of North Gessner and Clay. The Fiat was hit on the side, causing it to spin out of control and hit a gray Mustang into the next lane. The paramedics were able to get the pinned Fiat driver out of his car and rush him to the hospital. Last reports indicate he was in stable condition.

It appears that speed and possible distracted driving were the contributing factors for these four car accidents. All of the crashes remain under investigation. Currently, Houston leads the nation among deadliest roads and fatal crashes according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
