East Texas Man Killed in Drunk Driving Crash in Nacogdoches County

Nacogdoches County, Texas (Feb. 16, 2023) – A man has been arrested after causing a multi-vehicle crash while drunk in Nacogdoches that resulted in the death of Griceldo Garcia. 

The incident occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. in the 2800 block of NE Stallings. According to the crash report, Claudia Luna Villantes, driving a Jeep Patriot, was slowing down to turn into a private drive.

Simultaneously, Garcia, driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee, was slowing down behind the Jeep Patriot. A Ford F-150, driven by Jerry Chandler, struck the Grand Cherokee, causing it to crash into the Jeep Patriot. 

It was determined on the scene that Chandler was intoxicated and was taken into custody. 

In addition to Villantes, a 5-year-old passenger in the Jeep Patriot was also injured.

Garcia, his wife, and their 9-year-old grandson were all taken to the hospital in serious condition. Garcia was declared dead at the hospital. The 9-year-old was flown to a Dallas-area medical center and is reportedly in stable condition. 

Chandler reportedly faces two charges of intoxication assault and a single charge of intoxication manslaughter.
