UPDATE: Two of the seven workers have been released from the hospital. The remaining five remain in stable condition.
Corpus Christi, TX (12/6/2020) – Seven people were injured after an oil storage tank explosion occurred Saturday in Corpus Christi.
The incident happened around 10 a.m. at the Magellan Midstream Partners plant. The cause of the explosion remains unknown. According to operations manager Mark Calhoun, the fire started at an above-ground storage tank that held residual white crude oil. He said that it was being cleaned and inspected.
Four workers were critically injured, seven injured in total.
A shelter-in-place order was issued after the blast occurred and was lifted around noon. No other injuries or property damage were reported. There was also no air contamination.
The fire was extinguished and firefighters left the site shortly after 2 p.m.
