Houston, Texas (Aug. 5, 2022) – Lee Simmons, a local father has been killed as the result of an 18-wheeler losing two of its tires while driving on I-45 near Louetta in northwest Harris County. The accident occurred in the 20700 block of the North Freeway. Simmons’ 11-year-old was also in the vehicle at the time of the accident and was treated on the scene for minor injuries.
The 18-wheeler was traveling southbound at the time of the accident when two of its tires came off the left side of the vehicle. One wheel traveled into the service road, striking a vehicle, but only causing minor damage and injury.
The other wheel traveled into the northbound lane, striking the windshield of Simmons’ vehicle, heavily damaging the roof.
Police have identified the driver of the truck as Joshua Gable. Gable is fully cooperating with local police in the ongoing investigation.
Deputies have thus far said “one of the rear tandem wheels broke away from the axle, causing the wheel to separate.”
No charges have been announced at this time.
