Smith County, TX (6/23/2020) – An 8-year-old girl is now dead after being involved in a two-vehicle wreck Monday morning on Toll 49.
The accident happened around 8:30 a.m. on Toll 49 south of Highway 64W in Smith County. Daisy Pineda, 28, was headed south in a Mazda CX5 at unsafe speeds when she lost control of her vehicle and went into the path of a Dodge 2500 pickup truck towing a trailer headed northbound, driven by Steven Joseph Worl, 69. The vehicles collided.
The 8-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene.
Pineda was transported to Christus Trinity Mother Francis Hospital – Tyler in critical condition. A female 2-year-old child in the vehicle was also transported to Christus Trinity Mother Francis Hospital – Tyler in serious condition.
Worl was transported to UT-Health – Tyler in stable condition.
Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in fourteen days.
