Jones County, TX (1/14/2020) – One man is dead after an oilfield explosion occurred Sunday morning in Jones County.
The accident occurred around 10:15 a.m. when Jorge Martinez was power-washing the heater of a battery oil tank. The tank combusted from an unknown cause and caused Martinez to crash into a nearby vehicle. Martinez suffered burns on 60 percent of his body, as well as severe lacerations.
Martinez was taken to a hospital in Lubbock where he later died from his injuries.
Investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in fourteen days.
