Man Dead after Industrial Accident in New Mexico

Carlsbad, NM (5/18/2020) – A man from Texas has died after a probable industrial accident in southeastern New Mexico.

The accident happened at Marathon Rio Hub Rail Terminal in Loving when a man, 49-year-old Cody B. Vernon, was performing an inspection on a railroad tank car. According to authorities, Vernon was inside a railroad tank car unconscious and not breathing around 9 a.m.

While the cause of the man’s accident is unknown, it was reported that this accident was labeled as an industrial accident. These types of accidents usually occur while workers are on duty. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 2004 there were over 4.2 million job-related injuries and illnesses and over 5,700 on the job fatalities. The most common causes of work-related fatalities include highway incidents, falls, falling or moving objects.
