Belton, TX (7/14/2020) – A head-on crash in Belton left one man dead and a woman injured Thursday, July 9.
The accident happened on Sparta Road when Jacob Allen Smith, 27 attempted to pass another car when he collided head-on into a Mercury Sedan driven by James Sexton, 42. Sexton was headed northbound on Sparta when he was struck by Smith’s pickup truck.
Sexton was killed at the scene. His passenger, a 20-year-old woman, suffered incapacitating injuries and was taken to Scott & White Medical Center in Temple.
Smith remained in the Bell County Jail Monday, facing a list of possible charges including intoxication manslaughter, intoxication assault, failure to stop and render aid/serious bodily injury, and failure to stop and render aid/death.
