Marion County, TX (8/10/2020) – A man was killed and another man was left injured after a traffic crash in Marion County Monday evening.
The incident occurred around 7:20 p.m. on FM 729 when a Chevrolet Silverado entered a curve at high speeds and left the roadway. It struck a power pole and rolled over. The vehicle also struck a parked pontoon-style boat.
The driver of the Silverado, 59-year-old Alex Samples, was ejected and taken to the hospital, where he later died.
A passenger, William Moore, 55, who was also ejected, was transported to the same hospital for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in fourteen days.
According to the NHTSA, rollover crashes are more likely to result in fatalities than any other types of crashes, and that most fatal rollover crashes are single-vehicle crashes. This type of crash is ultimately due to excessive speeding, alcohol, and other negligent acts the driver may be at-fault for. In the case above, this rollover wreck left two people ejected, with one person dead and another injured.
