Houston, Texas (April 22, 2023) – A suspected drunk driver struck and killed a man on the Southwest Freeway early Saturday morning.
The man, identified as Jacob Lewis, was pulled over in the northbound lane of US-59 near Shepherd Drive after the vehicle he was driving stalled. Lewis’s sister was at the scene of the accident and saw the incident occur.
The pair were driving home from a Taylor Swift concert earlier in the night.
Lewis was reportedly struck by a Volkswagen Beetle while pushing the stalled-out car. The driver of the Beetle, who has since been identified as 34-year-old Alan Bryant Hayes, fled the scene.
A tow truck driver nearby followed Hayes and called HPD, who took Hayes into custody. Hayes remains in custody on a $90,000 bond. Hayes reportedly was charged with a DWI in 2014 and 2015.
Hayes is facing charges of failure to stop and render aid and driving while intoxicated.
