Man Killed, Woman Injured in Single-Vehicle Wreck in Upshur County

Upshur County, TX (3/26/2021) – A man was killed and a woman was injured in a one-vehicle wreck Friday morning.

The accident happened around 10:55 a.m. on FM 593 near Gilmer. A man was headed east in his SUV when it went off the road before a curve. The vehicle overturned and the driver was ejected.

The driver, 53-year-old Elmer Leroy Blankenship, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger, Denise Murphy, 22, was taken to Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview in stable condition.

Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in fourteen days.
