Morgan Michael Killed in Fatal Amarillo Wreck

Amarillo, TX (6/15/2020) – A man is now dead after a fatal wreck Friday morning in Amarillo.

The accident happened around 1:04 a.m. at the intersection of Interstate 40 West and Soncy Road. Luise Anchondo-Balderama, 23, was headed northbound on Soncy in a Dodge truck while a Ford truck was headed westbound on the I-40 access road. Anchondo-Balderama struck the driver side of the Ford, causing the passenger side of the Ford to hit a telephone pole.

The passenger of the Ford, 23-year-old Morgan Michael was killed at the scene.

The driver of the Ford was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Anchondo-Balderama was treated for minor injuries and arrested for intoxicated manslaughter and intoxicated assault.

Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in fourteen days.

According to Texas law, an Intoxication Assault involves a person who commits an offense if the person, by accident or mistake, operates a motor vehicle in a public place while intoxicated, by reason of that intoxication causes serious bodily injury to another. Serious bodily injury means an injury that creates a substantial risk of death or that causes serious permanent disfigurement or protracted loss or impairment of the function of any bodily member or organ.
