Odessa, Texas (March 28, 2023) – The Odessa Police Department is reporting that a person was killed after being involved in a multi-vehicle accident near 42nd and Preston Smith in Odessa.
The accident reportedly took place just before 8 p.m. when Griselda Cardenas, driving a 2020 Nissan Altima, failed to yield and turned left onto Preston Smith from 42nd. At this same time, three motorcyclists, Severo Muniz on a green Kawasaki Ninja, Brandon Rosenthal driving a gray Kawasaki Ninja, and Mario Olivas on a Honda CB1000, were all traveling on 42nd.
Cardenas struck Muniz and Rosenthal during the failed yield. Muniz was taken to Medical Center Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Rosenthal was also transported to MCH with reportedly serious bodily injury. The third biker, Olivas, suffered only a minor injury and was treated on the scene.
