One Killed, Another Injured in Deadly Highway 285 Accident

Reeves County, TX (1/14/2020) – One is dead and another is injured after a deadly wreck on Highway 285 on Saturday in Reeves County.

The accident occurred around 1:30 p.m. when a Ford F-550 and a Nissan Altima crashed into each other after the Nissan crossed into the wrong side of the road.

The driver of the Altima, identified as 21-year-old Marcos Lopez, was killed at the scene.

The driver of the Ford was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in fourteen days.

The results of the investigation will reveal exactly why Lopez drove into the opposite lanes instead of staying in his own directed lane. Bringing in an Engine Control Module (ECM) will be vital to the investigation since it will record whether or not Lopez made an attempt to stop his vehicle before drifting into the opposite lane. Usually for wrong-way collisions, lack of sleep, intoxication, or distracted driving are big influencers as to why these kinds of accidents occur.
