Wheeler County, TX (1/2/2020) – One person was killed and two more were injured after a wreck on I-40 occurred in Wheeler County early Wednesday afternoon.
The wreck happened around 12:15 p.m. when a truck veered across the center median and hit another truck driving in the eastbound lanes. The first truck, driven by 41-year-old Peter Smith of New York, rolled onto its passenger side across both I-40 lanes. The second truck rolled onto its passenger side and came to a rest in a barrow ditch.
Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.
A passenger riding with Smith was air-lifted to a Lubbock hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
The driver of the second truck was transported to a hospital in Sherman with minor injuries.
Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in fourteen days.
