Wood County, TX (1/6/2020) -One person is dead and others are injured after a head-on collision occurred between two vehicles in Wood County.
The accident happened Thursday, Jan 2, around 8:45 p.m. on State Highway 37 when a Dodge Journey driven by 46-year-old Anna Ruth Bates was headed around a curve to the right while a Toyota 4Runner headed south on the same road. The 4Runner, driven by 24-year-old Kaylie Michelle Hasten, crossed into the opposing lane and struck Bates head-on.
Bates was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 7-month-old child riding with Bates was taken to a hospital for treatment of his injuries. He passed away due to injuries sustained in the accident.
Hasten was taken to a nearby hospital, where she remains in stable condition.
A passenger riding with Hasten, a 1-year-old female, was taken to UT-Health in Tyler where she also remains in stable condition.
Passengers in the Dodge Journey, six and four-year-old female passengers, were taken to UT-Health in Tyler. They also all remain in stable condition.
Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in fourteen days.
