Liberty, TX (October 4, 2019) – A serious crash left one person dead and four injured after on US 90 west of Liberty.
The car accident happened Thursday around 4:00 p.m. on US 90 near the Trinity River bridge between Liberty and Dayton.
An elderly man named Russell Allen Ham and his passenger were driving a 2016 Ford pickup traveling in the right hand lane heading east on US 90.
All of a sudden Mr. Ham veered left into oncoming traffic causing a series of crashes on the highway. His vehicle was struck by two 18-wheelers and a medical van.
Mr. Ham was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities believed he may have had a medical issue causing the accident. He passed away at the age of 79 and was from Louisiana.
Mr. Ham’s passenger has not been identified. However, she suffered minor injuries and was transported to Liberty-Dayton Regional Medical Center.
The driver of the medical van, 59-year-old Margarito Dominguez, was critically injured and was transported by LifeFlight to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas. Mr. Dominguez passed away hours later at the hospital.
Two passengers inside the medical van were taken to Liberty-Dayton RMC with non-life-threatening injuries.
The drivers of both 18-wheelers were not injured.
Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in fourteen days.
