Corpus Christi, TX (8/17/2021) – Two people are dead after an accident occurred late Tuesday evening.
The accident happened on U.S. Highway 77 in Kenedy County. A Chevrolet Tahoe towing a utility trailer was parked on the shoulder after losing gas when a truck tractor came by, veered off the roadway, and collided into the Tahoe. The truck tractor overturned then skidded off the roadway, causing the vehicle to catch fire.
The driver of the Tahoe, 48-year-old Fernando Benavidez Jr.., was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.
The passenger with Benavidez in the Tahoe was transported to Spohn Kleberg Hospital in Kingsville.
The driver of the truck tractor was trapped inside his vehicle. His condition remains unknown.
Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in fourteen days.
Roadside Accident Lawyers
Roadside accidents is a fatal type of accident that can result from several scenarios. A negligent driver may not have noticed your parked car on the road’s shoulder and sideswiped it or completely rear-ended you. Similarly, and much more catastrophic, a driver may not see you outside your disabled car and hits you. A careless driver may also be swerving between lanes, causing them to hit your vehicle. For the case above, a roadside accident occurred when a passing truck tractor struck a disabled car.
Due to their large dimensions and heavyweight, commercial trucks (or tractor-trailers) may cause debilitating injuries to drivers and occupants of passenger vehicles. Due to the fact that two people were killed, calling a truck accident attorney will be essential in order for accident damages to be repaired.
