Person Injured in Three-Vehicle Wreck near Texas-Louisiana State Line

Newton County, TX (3/1/2021) – A person was injured after a three-vehicle wreck occurred just west of the Texas- Louisiana state line on the Sabine River Bridge. 

The accident happened on Texas 63 when a Jeep was headed eastbound with a Mazda sedan behind them. A Peterbilt semi-truck towing a crane lift was headed westbound. 

The driver of the Jeep, a mail carrier, slowed down to make a turn and was then rear-ended by the Mazda. The Mazda pushed the Jeep into the westbound lane and into the path of the 18-wheeler. 

The second crash pushed the Jeep into the ditch and the 18-wheeler jackknifed in the middle of the road. 

The driver of the Jeep, Shawna Kay, 48 was taken to Jasper Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries.

The drivers of the Mazda sedan and the 18-wheeler were not hurt.
