Young County, TX (4/17/2020) – One person is now dead and two others were injured after a rollover wreck Tuesday.
The accident happened on FM 2179 when Jeremy Gilmore and two passengers approached a curve in the roadway at unsafe speeds. The car entered a barrow ditch and then rolled several times before landing on the roof of the car.
Passenger Derek Shane Morgan, 43, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Passenger Melissa Neff was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital for serious injuries.
Driver Gilmore fled the scene, but he was later found and then also taken to John Peter Smith Hospital for serious injuries.
Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in fourteen days.
According to the NHTSA, rollover crashes are more likely to result in fatalities than any other types of crashes, and that most fatal rollover crashes are single-vehicle crashes. This type of crash is ultimately due to excessive speeding, alcohol, and other negligent acts the driver may be at-fault for. For the case above, the investigation will reveal why exactly the driver of the SUV drove through a park and struck a tree.
